The main tourist attractions of Kenya are spectacular natural scenic beauty and abundant wild-life sanctuaries. It is also home to the Maasai Mara, the mysterious people of Central Africa.
We begin our visit in Sweetwaters, a luxurious tented camp on the Equator and
at the foot of Mount Kenia. We are immediately impressed by broad smiles and friendliness of the staff.
We visit a chimpanzee sanctuary, as well as a sanctuary for the threatened Black Rhino. The Big Five, the lion, the leopard, the elephant the rhino and the buffalo, can be seen on this large game farm.
Next is a visit to the private hiding place of Adnan Khashoggi. He was born in Mecca, of Turkish-Syrian descent. He was a shrewd businessman and arms deal broker. He received millions of dollars in commission for his deals.
We head for our next destination, Lake Nakuru National Park, close to the town of Nakuru. Lake Nakuru is a beautiful, shallow, alkaline lake and home to thousands upon thousands of flamingoes. There are also many other bird species to be seen, and it is a paradise for the birdwatcher. The lake is surrounded by acacia forest and open savanna, and is home to leopard, black and white rhino, Rothschild’s giraffe, two species of waterbuck and warthogs.
Next we visit the Nayahururu Waterfall, also known as Thomon’s Falls. This is Kenia’s highest waterfall.
Now we head for the Maasai Mara National Reserve which is world famous for the spectacular annual wildebeest migration which takes place in July and October. The migration cannot be described – it must be experienced.
Maasai Mara is a vast conservation area in the south-western corner of Kenia. It consists of undulating plains, hills and forests. To the south, it borders on the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, forming the a continuous conservation area of Mara-Serengeti Ecosystem, which covers 2500 sq. km.
You can also spend time relaxing at the swimming pool. In the evenings we enjoy the delicious food, the charming company of out fellow travellers, and entertainment by the locals.
