Itinerary

Day 1
Depart, dream and drift eastward

Our journey begins at O.R. Tambo International Airport, where we meet for our flight to Tanzania. It’s a travel day; a time to switch off, settle in and let the anticipation grow. As we cross the continent, the landscapes below shift, and the stillness of safari life draws nearer.

Day 2
Tranquil Tarangire

On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, our guides greet us warmly, and we set off for Tarangire Sopa Lodge, tucked inside the heart of Tarangire National Park.

After a welcome lunch by the pool, we ease into the rhythm of safari life with our first game drive, returning in time for dinner and our first night under African skies.

Highlight:

  • First afternoon game drive in a quiet, baobab-strewn landscape

Day 3
A Day on Safari

As the sun rises over the baobab-dotted landscape, we set off on a morning game drive through Tarangire National Park, famous for its vast elephant herds and sweeping savannahs. We might spot lion prides lounging in the shade or watch graceful giraffes nibbling on acacia trees. After a relaxed lunch and time to unwind at the lodge, we venture out again in the afternoon, when the golden light makes for spectacular wildlife sightings and photography.

We return to Tarangire Sopa Lodge for a delicious dinner and a peaceful night under star-filled skies, surrounded by the sounds of the wild.

Highlight:

  • Morning and afternoon drives through varied terrain with time to relax between outings

Day 4
Discover Lake Manyara

After breakfast, we drive to Lake Manyara National Park with picnic lunches for a leisurely game drive. Known for its lush groundwater forest and varied landscapes, the park is home to baboons, monkeys, and the elusive tree-climbing lions. While rising water levels have altered the flamingo patterns, the park still offers rich birdlife and a wide range of wildlife.

Later this afternoon, we continue to Karatu and check into Bougainvillea Safari Lodge, a welcoming guesthouse set in tranquil gardens.

Highlight:

  • Leisurely game drive and picnic lunch

Day 5
Into the Serengeti

After breakfast, we depart Karatu with lunch boxes in hand and make our way to the Central Serengeti. Along the way, we enjoy a game drive through this iconic landscape, which is part of the greater wildebeest migration corridor shared with Kenya’s Maasai Mara. The grasslands are alive with movement, and there’s every chance of encountering some of the more than two million plains animals that roam here, along with predators like lions and cheetahs.

By late afternoon, we arrive at Serengeti Kati Kati Tented Camp, set deep in the heart of the park. This classic safari camp offers simple canvas tents, warm meals, hot bucket showers, and fireside stories under the stars. At night, you may even hear wildlife passing quietly through camp.

Highlights:

  • Scenic overland journey to the Serengeti
  • Arrival at a classic tented safari camp

Day 6
The Northern Serengeti

After breakfast, we depart with lunch boxes for a game drive into the northern Serengeti, crossing vast open plains alive with wildlife. We spend two nights at Mara Kati Kati, a mobile tented camp near the Mara River. In July and August, thousands of wildebeest gather here, offering the chance to witness the dramatic river crossing.

Dinner is served in the dining tent, and evenings are spent around the campfire, surrounded by the sounds of the bush, including possible lion roars and the shuffle of hooves just beyond the canvas.

Highlight:

  • Remote drive north through expansive plains

Day 7
Serengeti game drives and wildlife

A full day to explore the Serengeti on morning and afternoon game drives, tracking wildlife across vast open plains. Return to camp for hearty meals and stories by the fire.

Highlights:

  • Morning and afternoon drives through open landscapes
  • Peaceful evening at camp

Day 8
Endless Serengeti Plains

At dawn, rise above the plains for an optional hot air balloon flight. You’ll soar into the sky as the sun greets the day, ascending into the clouds to see the spectacular panorama of the Serengeti. Your pilot can precisely control the altitude of your balloon, so you may dip down to skim the treetops and hopefully see some wildlife.

Afterwards, we join the rest of the group on a game drive and return to Serengeti Kati Kati. We travel through the grasslands, seeking out game and excellent sightings. This evening, our last night in a wilderness camp, is spent under a canvas of stars with the wilds of Africa just beyond our tent flaps.

Highlights:

  • Optional sunrise balloon flight
  • Final night in the wild beneath star-filled skies

Day 9
The Ngorongoro Crater

Awake to the dew-laden plains of the Serengeti. After breakfast at the camp, we journey to the Ngorongoro Crater. The towering crater walls rise to 600 metres, creating a natural enclosure thriving with wildlife.

The vast crater floor is a patchwork of grasslands, acacia woodlands and forested thickets. Seasonal marshes and soda lakes like Lake Magadi often draw flamingos, hippos and crocodiles. Herds of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle are commonly seen grazing the plains, which in turn support a healthy population of predators, including one of the highest lion densities in Africa.

We spend the day discovering this wildlife paradise and enjoy a picnic in the crater. Before continuing to Karatu, we stop at a nearby Maasai village to gain insight into the community’s traditions, daily life and deep connection to the land.

Later, we drive to Country Lodge, where we spend our last night in Tanzania. Set on five acres of beautifully landscaped gardens, Country Lodge excels in farm-style hospitality.

Highlights:

  • Day trip into the crater
  • Visit to a Maasai village

Day 10
Farewell Tanzania, memories to treasure

We enjoy a delightful breakfast at Country Lodge and depart for Kilimanjaro International Airport, where we check in for our flight to Johannesburg.

Day 11
Kawheri - Goodbye

During our time in Tanzania, we’ve had the incredible opportunity to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of modern life. Camping amidst the awe-inspiring Great Migration, traversing the vast Serengeti plains, and witnessing unforgettable wildlife spectacles allowed us to be fully present in the moment like never before. At Seagull, we sincerely hope that the memories created during our Tanzanian expedition will remain with you for years to come.

FAQs

We are here to help

The tour leader collects a set amount from each member of a tour. This kitty is then used to tip the local tour guide and city guides, bus drivers, any other assistants, and restaurant staff. We believe in tipping for good service as a token of appreciation, especially as many workers in tourism rely on tips to supplement their income.

Although we cannot apply on your behalf, we are more than willing to give guidance and assistance with completing forms. We do this for many clients on a near-daily basis. It does, however, remain the responsibility of the client to ensure that they get the correct visa on time.

Remember that we limit the number of guests on our tours. This means more time at stops and sites. We definitely do not do groups of 30 pax, where guests are rushed from one site to the other. There is enough time to explore on your own.

We always suggest USD/Euro 50 to USD/Euro 100 per person per day. As we mostly include two meals per day on our tours, this will be enough for lunch/dinner, some snacks, and memento shopping. Should you want to buy larger items, we suggest taking along your credit card. Remember to advise the bank that you will be travelling.

Once you have completed the form, you will receive an email with the itinerary which includes pricing, inclusions and flight options.
