Day 1

Depart for Lima from O.R. Tambo International Airport. Get ready to experience the Amazonian Jungle!

Day 2
Hola Peru!

We arrive in Lima, also known as the City of Kings. Peru’s dynamic capital, where rich history, exquisite cuisine, and breathtaking coastal views create an unforgettable experience, is your first Amazonian adventure stop.

Day 3
Historical Lima

We discover Lima’s historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a treasure trove of colonial splendour and vibrant culture. Wander through its charming streets to discover grand plazas, ornate churches, and architectural masterpieces. This enchanting district brims with museums, bustling markets, and lively cafes, offering a captivating glimpse into Peru’s rich past and vibrant present.

Day 4
Jungle joy

We fly to the jungle city of Iquitos, and the journey takes us into the heart of the Amazonian Jungle, where we’ll find all kinds of rare animals.

Day 5
Natural wonders

We swim in the Amazon River and watch grey and pink dolphins in their natural habitat. We also see the Victoria Regia, the world’s largest aquatic plant, search for iguanas, then take an adventure boat trip to practice piraña fishing.

Day 6
Early to rise

We wake early to go birdwatching at dawn and later head to the San Juan de Yanayacu village, where we share the morning with locals and learn more about their lives in the Jungle. After lunch, we search for Hoatzin, a unique bird native to the Amazon Basin. It has a blue face, red eyes, and a spiky crest. Known as the “stinkbird” for its manure-like odour, it has prehistoric features like clawed wing digits in chicks. Its specialised digestive system ferments vegetation, enabling a diet of leaves and plant matter, contributing to its sluggish flight.

Day 7
Jungle Immersion

Breakfast at the lodge is followed by a day trip exploring remote locations upstream. We hope to see birds, sloths, monkeys and insects. We enjoy lunch in the middle of the Jungle and explore all the different ecosystems.

Our day trip ends with dinner at the lodge and a nocturnal walk searching for frogs, insects, and reptiles.

Day 8
Jungle Exploration

After breakfast, we look for more rare species in the Amazon Jungle.

Lunch at the lodge is followed by kayaking or canoeing along the Yanayacu River.

After dinner, you can choose your evening activity.

Day 9
Amazonian Leisure

Our morning starts with a boat trip to a remote lake. Here, you can wind down in a hammock, lie on a pouffe, or swim in the Yanayacu River.

Lunch at the lodge is followed by our departure to the hotel, where we will enjoy a farewell dinner.

Day 10
Flavours of Lima | OPTIONAL TOUR EXTENSION: PERU & BOLIVIA

After breakfast, we visit the Surquillo Market. Immerse yourself in the colours and flavours of the tropical fruits of Peru. Then we enjoy a last lunch in Lima, where we’ll taste various Peruvian dishes and drink Pisco sour, the quintessential South American cocktail. It features a smooth, aromatic grape brandy called Pisco and is known for its refreshing, creamy texture with a frothy top. This drink perfectly balances sweet and tart flavours, offering a delightful taste of local tradition and culture.

Sated on Peruvian flavour, we depart to the airport for our flight back to Johannesburg.

We are here to help

The tour leader collects a set amount from each member of a tour. This kitty is then used to tip the local tour guide and city guides, bus drivers, any other assistants, and restaurant staff. We believe in tipping for good service as a token of appreciation, especially as many workers in tourism rely on tips to supplement their income.

Although we cannot apply on your behalf, we are more than willing to give guidance and assistance with completing forms. We do this for many clients on a near-daily basis. It does, however, remain the responsibility of the client to ensure that they get the correct visa on time.

Remember that we limit the number of guests on our tours. This means more time at stops and sites. We definitely do not do groups of 30 pax, where guests are rushed from one site to the other. There is enough time to explore on your own.

We always suggest USD/Euro 50 to USD/Euro 100 per person per day. As we mostly include two meals per day on our tours, this will be enough for lunch/dinner, some snacks, and memento shopping. Should you want to buy larger items, we suggest taking along your credit card. Remember to advise the bank that you will be travelling.
