What to expect

Itinerary

Day 1
Johannesburg – Nairobi

Your adventure of a lifetime starts at O.R. Tambo International Airport, where you will meet the rest of the group at the Kenya Airways check-in counters before embarking on your flight to Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya.

Upon arrival, you will collect your bags and meet the tour’s expert local guides. The group will be transferred to the Fourpoints by Sheraton Hotel, where you will enjoy a welcome dinner together.

Kenya is a treasure trove map for wildlife and home to all the members of the Big Five: lion, elephant, leopard, rhino and buffalo.

The country’s landscape completely alters as you move across the country, from the deep ridges of the Great Rift Valley to the sweeping plains of the Maasai Mara Game Reserve and the vast Indian Ocean stretching across the coastline.

Day 2
Maasai Mara Game Reserve

We check out after breakfast and are transferred to the Wilson Airport. From here we fly to the Maasai Mara Game Reserve.

The Maasai Mara is truly a must-see for every safari traveller; it’s just one part of the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem (or Greater Serengeti ecosystem) that stretches from the Mau Escarpment above Kenya’s Rift Valley to the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania.

Here, more than 1.5 million wildebeest and 300 000 zebras migrate in an enormous loop between Kenya and Tanzania every year. Here, in Kenya, the famous scenes of wildebeest crossing rivers unfold, and we hope to witness one of these magnificent moments, but nature will determine our luck.

We continue to our camp, with a game drive en route. Who knows? We might just see some of the Big Five along the way.

Lunch is served on arrival. We settle in for our 4 night stay.

In the evening, the group will enjoy the warm campfire and listen to laughing hyenas, singing nightjar or even the roar of a lion. It’s during these “quiet” moments that you discover Kenya’s essence and beauty.

As the American author John Hemingway famously wrote, “If I have ever seen magic, it has been in Africa.”

In the morning, your moments of magic will continue with game drives and safari adventures.

Day 3-5
Maasai Mara

We enjoy three full days in the Maasai Mara, with game drives and optional activities such as a Hot Air Balloon Safari. Flying high up in the skies above the Maasai Mara is the ultimate safari experience. If you would like to embark on such an adventure, Seagull Travel & Tours can pre-book it for you.

The Maasai Mara is perhaps the only region left in the world where visitors have the opportunity to see animals in the same super-abundance as they existed a century ago. The reserve stretches across 1 510 square kilometres and features a stunning kaleidoscope of wild and rugged landscapes. We explore the plains and rolling hills for a chance to spot elephant, black-maned lion, leopard, buffalo, cheetah, over 450 species of bird and diverse species of hoofed animals.

Day 6
Nairobi - Johannesburg

After enjoying our final breakfast in Kenya, we embark on our journey back to Nairobi.

Upon arrival, at Wilson Airport, the group is met and transferred to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. We check in for our flight back home after a memorable holiday. Once in Johannesburg, collect your bags, say farewell to your fellow memory makers and head home full of heart.

Seagull Travel & Tours hopes this corner of Africa ignited a more profound love for travelling and exploring the world’s wonders.

FAQs

We are here to help

The tour leader collects a set amount from each member of a tour. This kitty is then used to tip the local tour guide and city guides, bus drivers, any other assistants, and restaurant staff. We believe in tipping for good service as a token of appreciation, especially as many workers in tourism rely on tips to supplement their income.

Although we cannot apply on your behalf, we are more than willing to give guidance and assistance with completing forms. We do this for many clients on a near-daily basis. It does, however, remain the responsibility of the client to ensure that they get the correct visa on time.

Remember that we limit the number of guests on our tours. This means more time at stops and sites. We definitely do not do groups of 30 pax, where guests are rushed from one site to the other. There is enough time to explore on your own.

We always suggest USD/Euro 50 to USD/Euro 100 per person per day. As we mostly include two meals per day on our tours, this will be enough for lunch/dinner, some snacks, and memento shopping. Should you want to buy larger items, we suggest taking along your credit card. Remember to advise the bank that you will be travelling.
