Itinerary
Depart from Johannesburg
We meet at the airport for a late evening flight to Kilimanjaro International airport.
Kilimanjaro Airport – Arusha
We arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where our friendly guides meet us. We travel to Arusha, the safari capital of Tanzania, and check in to the Arusha Coffee Lodge, nestled in the verdant foothills of Mount Meru.
Arusha – Tarangire
After an early breakfast, we depart to Tarangire National Park, where we enjoy a game drive. After a sumptuous lunch at Tarangire Safari Lodge, your game drive continues en route to Tarangire Sopa Lodge where you can relax on your private balcony before heading to the restaurant to sample fine local cuisine.
Tarangire – Ndutu
After breakfast we enjoy a last game drive in TarangireNational Park en route to the Ngorogoro Conservation Area. Then we enjoy a picnic lunch en route to our lodge located between the Ngorongoro Crater and the Central Serengeti. The Ndutu area is often filled with large herds of grazing wildebeest at this time of year. The afternoon is completed with an afternoon game drive exploring the Ndutu plain. We spend the night in luxury tents, complete with ensuite bathrooms and views of the indigenous bush.
Ndutu – Serengeti
Awake in Lake Ndutu and enjoy a game drive to the central Serengeti National Park. The park forms part of a larger protected area roughly the size of Belgium and entirely dedicated to the conservation of the African wilderness. It’s home to millions of plains animals and thousands of predators.
Serengeti
Today is all about exploring the wonders of the Serengeti, with morning and afternoon game drives. Lahia Tented Lodge will cater for lunch and dinner and make sure you go to bed dreaming of the migration, the meals and the endless views.
Serengeti
Start the day with a romantic hot air balloon flight over the Serengeti. This optional extra takes you high above the plains to experience the vastness of the Serengeti.
On this day we embrace the routine of safari with game drives in the open plains. Located in the Central Serengeti, our lodge is the ideal starting point for expeditions into the bush. We explore the grassy savannah scattered with rocky kopjes and clusters of acacia trees, marveling at the abundance of animals.
Serengeti – Ngorongoro
After breakfast, our game drive leads us to the Ngorongoro Crater. Lunch is enjoyed at TNS NgorogoroRim Lodge, whereafter we travel to a Maasai Village. We see their fascinating way of life firsthand, which persists despite the intrusion of modernity.
We return to TNS Ngorogoro Rim Lodge, where we will stay for two nights. Perched on the rim of the crater, the lodge has breathtaking views over the UNESCO-approved landscape.
Ngorongoro – Crater
This morning, we awake to the expanse of the Ngorongoro crater, which we appreciate from our private balconies. As the sun rises, we descend 600 meters to the crater floor, a wildlife haven.
Our last night in Tanzania is spent on the rim of the crater, taking in the fabulous views and reminiscing about an eventful trip.
Ngorongoro – Kilimanjaro
After a leisurely breakfast, we drive back to Arusha for lunch at a restaurant before heading to Kilimanjaro International Airport. En route we will stop to buy souvenirs – Tanzanian coffee and handicrafts make great gifts.
South Africa
We arrive back in South Africa with safari stories to last a lifetime.

South Africa
We arrive back in South Africa with safari stories to last a lifetime.
Pole pole, pronounced pohlay pohlay, is Swahili for ‘slowly, slowly,’ but direct translation doesn’t reflect the true meaning of this Tanzanian phrase. Pole pole is an approach, a way of being that is best summed up as unhurried, relaxed and easygoing.
It’s in this spirit that we journey into the Tanzanian wilderness. We’ll spend eight nights embracing the rhythms of the African bush, taking the time to experience the sights, sounds and smells of the Serengeti.
Pole Pole Tanzania takes us to three of Northern Tanzania’s most famous game reserves. We visit the South and Central Serengeti to see the sights of the Great Migration. Every year millions of wildebeest make the 800-kilometer trek from the Serengeti in Tanzania to Kenya’s Maasai Mara National Reserve and back again. Following the rains in search of water and food, they flood the endless plains in immense numbers, creating an epic wildlife spectacle.
Our tour complements excellent wildlife viewing with stays in luxury African lodges which invite you to unwind and disconnect. Our safari ends with two nights in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, where we stay on the rim of the crater. Panoramic views of this UNESCO World Heritage Site greet us at the end of every day, a refreshing tonic to the rush of everyday life.
The result of over 17 years of experience in Tanzanian safaris, we’ve designed Pole Pole Tanzania to allow you to enjoy the magic of the Great Migration without worrying about the complex details.

We are here to help
The tour leader collects a set amount from each member of a tour. This kitty is then used to tip the local tour guide and city guides, bus drivers, any other assistants, and restaurant staff. We believe in tipping for good service as a token of appreciation, especially as many workers in tourism rely on tips to supplement their income.
Although we cannot apply on your behalf, we are more than willing to give guidance and assistance with completing forms. We do this for many clients on a near-daily basis. It does, however, remain the responsibility of the client to ensure that they get the correct visa on time.
Remember that we limit the number of guests on our tours. This means more time at stops and sites. We definitely do not do groups of 30 pax, where guests are rushed from one site to the other. There is enough time to explore on your own.
We always suggest USD/Euro 50 to USD/Euro 100 per person per day. As we mostly include two meals per day on our tours, this will be enough for lunch/dinner, some snacks, and memento shopping. Should you want to buy larger items, we suggest taking along your credit card. Remember to advise the bank that you will be travelling.
