Itinerary
Johannesburg – Dar es Salaam
We meet at O.R. Tambo for our flight to Dar es Salaam. We look forward to a journey to two of Tanzania’s most fascinating national parks. Safari offers the opportunity to switch off, tune out and lose track of time as you surround yourself with nature. Relaxing safari lodges, excellent hospitality and delicious meals will light up our trip, as will exciting light aircraft flights between each destination.
On arrival in Dar es Salaam, we are transferred to the Dar es Salaam Serena Hotel and check into our rooms.
After breakfast, we travel to the airport for our flight to Nyerere National Park, formerly the Selous Game Reserve. Covering an astonishing 55,000 square kilometres, Nyerere is beautifully wild. The great Rufiji River cuts through the park, supporting large pods of hippos and lone crocodiles. Elsewhere, the variety of habitats varies greatly over short distances, supporting a range of species, including lion, leopard, wild dog, elephant, zebra and the elusive black rhino.
At Mtemere airstrip, we are met by our friendly hosts and taken to Rufiji River Camp for lunch before setting out on an afternoon game-viewing activity. On our return, we are greeted by a delicious al fresco dinner at the camp and lovely vistas of the Rufiji River.
Nyerere National Park
Awake in beautiful Nyerere and surrender to the rhythms of safari. The following two days will be spent enjoying the warm hospitality of Rufiji River Camp and exploring the surrounding wilderness with safaris led by expert guides. The camp’s unique position allows for boat and walking safaris in addition to classic 4×4 bush adventures.
Nyerere National Park – Ruaha National Park
This morning, we make our way to Mtemere airstrip and board our flight to Ruaha National Park. Weather permitting, we see breathtaking views of the Tanzanian landscape. Ruaha National Park is situated in the heart of Tanzania, within the East African Rift Valley. The Ruaha River, the park’s namesake, meanders through its heart, a haven for the park’s animals in the dry season.
On arrival at Msembe airstrip, we are welcomed by our hosts and transferred to Ruaha River Lodge. We set out on a game drive and get to know the park. In the evening, we gather around the campfire, soaking up the camp’s views over the river and swapping stories from our day in the bush.
Ruaha National Park
A view over the Ruaha River greets you in the morning as each of Ruaha River Lodge’s thatched cottages overlooks the popular drinking spot. If you’re lucky, you’ll see a hippo or two from your room before setting off on game drives which show us the wonders of the park. Ruaha is home to a wide variety of species, including buffalo, zebra, waterbuck, impala, giraffe, hartebeest, kudu, and the sought-after Big Five. Ruaha is one of the last major strongholds for African wild dog populations, with more than 100 found in the park. Expeditions into the bush are complemented with laidback relaxing at the lodge and excellent meals.
Ruaha National Park – Dar es Salaam
This morning we bid farewell to Ruaha. We are taken to Msembe airstrip and board our flight to Dar Es Salaam. Expansive views of Tanzania pass us by as we travel to the coast. We are transferred to the Dar es Salaam Serena Hotel on arrival at the airport. Tonight, we gather for a farewell meal in the hotel and reminisce over an incredible safari experience.
Dar es Salaam to Johannesburg
We check out of the Dar es Salaam Serena Hotel in the early hours of the morning and make our way to the airport for our flight to Johannesburg. Our encounters with wild animals in the African bush have filled our senses and awakened our spirits. As you return to routine, we hope that wild days in the untouched corners of Tanzania will stay with you.

We are here to help
The tour leader collects a set amount from each member of a tour. This kitty is then used to tip the local tour guide and city guides, bus drivers, any other assistants, and restaurant staff. We believe in tipping for good service as a token of appreciation, especially as many workers in tourism rely on tips to supplement their income.
Although we cannot apply on your behalf, we are more than willing to give guidance and assistance with completing forms. We do this for many clients on a near-daily basis. It does, however, remain the responsibility of the client to ensure that they get the correct visa on time.
Remember that we limit the number of guests on our tours. This means more time at stops and sites. We definitely do not do groups of 30 pax, where guests are rushed from one site to the other. There is enough time to explore on your own.
We always suggest USD/Euro 50 to USD/Euro 100 per person per day. As we mostly include two meals per day on our tours, this will be enough for lunch/dinner, some snacks, and memento shopping. Should you want to buy larger items, we suggest taking along your credit card. Remember to advise the bank that you will be travelling.
